About Us:
Old Town Market is a family owned corner grocery store which serves the grocery needs of Old Orcutt.  Store owners Mark and Wendy Steller purchased the store in 2004, having spent all of their previous working lives in retail management.  Their idea of a Grocery Store was to make it the old "Mom & Pop" store from years past.  Besides having a  down home feel and charm of a historic sixty year old market, Old Town Market specializes in fine local wine, locally grown produce, made to order deli, an old school butcher on staff, and a unique collection of antique furniture, collectibles and primitives.  If you are traveling through Orcutt/Santa Maria, don't miss your chance to stop by an old piece of retail history; just like you remember shopping with Mom or Grandma when you were kids.


The Steller Family:
The Steller family moved to the Santa Maria Valley in 1955, when Dr. Frank Steller and his wife Margaret opened an Optometry Practice where now sits the Jack-in-the -Box on Broadway.  They raised six sons, all who continue to live and raise their families in Orcutt/Santa Maria.  Mark, the youngest son, had a long career as manager of Longs Drugs, as had his wife Wendy.  With retail in their blood, the operation of Old Town Market has instilled a new generation of retail lovers in their children, Dan, James, Matt and Melissa.  "Family is what retail should be all about and family is what has been lost in today's corporate America" says store owner Mark.  Wendy invites you to see "Just what Steller Service is all about!" 


Old Town History:

Orcutt, California was established in 1904 as an oil town after oil was discovered by geologist W.W.Orcutt.  A huge geyser erupted which was named "Old Maud" after which the town flourished for many years.  Local business man Joe Scolari opened the original Scolari's Super Market on this site back in 1948.  Scolari's became a household name on California's Central Coast as stores began to open from Santa Barbara to Paso Robles.  The
chain thrived along with rival "William's Bros Market" until the Central Coast stores were sold to Lucky Stores in the mid '70's.  A few of the smaller stores, including this one, were retained by the Scolari family and named J.J.'s, after founders Joe and Joey, and continued to operate successfully for many years.  Now Old Town Market, this historic store sits in the center of what was once a bustling oil town, but now a charming suburb of the larger Santa Maria, Santa Barbara County's largest city.
